J.P. Ellerbe

Mt. GILEAD -- J.P. Ellerbe, 78, of Mount Gilead, died Thursday, September 24, 2009 at First Health/ Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Services will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Leah R. Levin Memorial Auditorium with burial in Oliver Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Mount Gilead.

Born in Richmond County January 11, 1931, he was a son of the late Raymond and Kessie Haywood Ellerbe Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Pansie Rush Ellerbe of the home; three sons, Eoger Ellerbe of Salisbury, Fred Douglas Ellerbe of Charlotte and Ronnie Ellerbe of Greenville, S.C.; four daughters, Kaleelah Johnson of Atlanta, Ga., Lucy Bailey of Cary, Cynthia Ewing of Asheboro and Alice James of Mount Gilead; two brothers, Luke Ellerbe of Kaleen, Texas, and Sherman Ellerbe of Fuquay-Varina; four sisters, Isabel Medley of Brooklyn, N.Y., Esther Mae Nixon of Waxhaw, Florence Cagle of Biscoe and Shelley James of Cary; 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Viewing will be Monday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home of Mount Gilead.

James H. Helms

MONROE - James Hillard Helms 79, died Friday, September 25, 2009.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday September 28, 2009 at Lakeland Memorial Park 1901 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, N.C. 28112.

He was born June 23, 1930 in Union County, son of the late Hill Helms and Myrtle Preslar Brantley.

Survivors include his wife Lucille Price Helms; son, Ed Helms of Wingate; daughter. Janice Helms of Monroe; brother, Clayton Helms of Rock Hill, S.C.; sister, Tootsie Pace Batson; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Virginia Helms

MONROE - Virginia Helms, age 74, of Monroe, died Saturday, (September 26, 2009) at Carolinas Medical Center-Union.

Billy Joe Rowell

MIDLAND -- Bill, 58, of Midland NC, went to be with the Lord on September 25, 2009 at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital.

Bill was born May 7, 1951 the son of the late Norman S. Rowell and Virginia Gaskey Rowell.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased in death by two brothers; Norman Ray and James Lee Rowell.

Bill was a Vietnam War veteran and received an honorable discharge on November 1, 1974, after serving three years.

He is survived by his son, Richard James Durant Rowell of Piggot, Ar.; two daughters, Billie Joe Rowell of Piggot, Ar. and Sheri Lyn Rowell Treadaway of Marshville, NC; four brothers, Vann D. Rowell and wife Juanita of Matthew, NC, Larry W. Rowell and wife Rachel of Indian Trial, NC, Roger D. Rowell and wife Christine of Matthews, NC, Charles D. Rowell and wife Debbie of Indian Trial, NC; three sisters Mary Rowell Little of Matthews, NC, Phyllis Rowell Sawyer of Monroe, NC, Iris Jean Rowell Brigman and husband Jack Brigman of Chester, SC, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

To the close friends that have taken an interest in his well being and caring for him. Thanks!
