Deaths for September 13
MATTHEWS -- Ruby Inez Helms, 77, of Matthews died September 11, 2009 at Presbyterian Matthews.
Services will be on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Eastwood Forest Baptist Church. The visitation will be one hour prior.
She was born August 10, 1932 in Lincoln County to the late Burgin Lee Reep and Pearl Welch Reep.
She is survived by her husband, Burvin Helms; son, Jimmy Reep; step-sons, Larry Helms, and Horace Helms; step-daughter, Carol Starnes and her husband Loyd; brothers, sisters, and one grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
Arrangements are in care of Heritage Funeral Home, Indian Trail Chapel.
John Weldon McDow Sr.
MONROE -- John Weldon “J.W.” McDow Sr., 88, of Monroe, died Friday, September 11, 2009, at his home.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Langford Chapel CME Church in Monroe. The body wil l lie in repose for one hour prior to the service.
Entombment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park Mausoleum with full military honors.
Born in Lancaster County, S.C., he was a son of the late Will and Cora Dunlap McDow and was married to the late Louise Crowder McDow.
Survivors include a daughter, Lugenia Polk of Monroe; two sons, John W. McDow Jr., and Michael McDow of Monroe; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe.

Rita M. Parker
WAXHAW -- Rita McManus Parker, 52, died Friday, September 11, 2009. She was born July 23, 1957 in Union County, daughter of the late Harry Lee and Frances Watts McManus. She was retired from Union County Department of Social Services.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 14, 2009 at 4:00 PM at Waxhaw Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Waxhaw City Cemetery.
Ms. Parker is survived by her sister, Deborah McManus and fiancé Chris Byrum of Monroe; brothers Harry Lee McManus, Jr. and wife Debbie of Waxhaw, Timothy A. McManus and wife Anne of Waxhaw; step-mother Doris G. McManus of Waxhaw; half-brother Graham McManus of Waxhaw; and nephews Brandon McManus, Ryan McManus, Austin Capps, Alex Capps, Cameron Baldwin and Reece Baldwin.
The family will greet visitors Sunday, September 13, 2009 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC.

Paul Edward Walden
KANNAPOLIS -- Paul Edward Walden, age 87, died Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Rehabilitation & Nursing Center of Monroe, Monroe, NC after a period of declining health.
He was born October 19, 1921 in Union County, NC, the son of the late Murphy Edward Walden and Millie Williams Walden.
In earlier years he was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt.#4 Sheet Dept. as a supervisor & had worked for the company for 38 years until his retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II as a mechanic in Germany. He actively enjoyed traveling with his wife in the United States for many years.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Mae Rogers Walden who died November 30, 2008.
A graveside service will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 13, 2009 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Landon Keziah, pastor of Lee Park Baptist Church, Monroe, NC with military rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends after the graveside service.
Survivors include one sister, Lila Donahue of Kannapolis, NC; and a number of nieces & nephews including two special nieces, Paulette W. Freeman & husband, David, Linda W. Adcock & husband, Ray, and a nephew, Brad Williams, all of Monroe, NC.
Memorials may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, in care of the Building Fund, 610 Macedonia Church Road, Monroe, NC 28112 OR Lee Park Baptist Church, in care of the Building Fund, 200 Tomberlin Street, Monroe, NC 28112.
