Man dies in motorcycle crash
According to N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Mark Helms, David Richard Daniel, 61, of 604 Heritage Way, lost control of his 2008 Suzuki in a curve on Machado Drive, about 300 feet south of its intersection with Brief Road.
Helms said that investigating Trooper J.F. McHan determined that Daniel, who was traveling north, left the right side of the road in the curve to the left and overturned. He suffered a broken neck and crushed sternum, Helms said.
“It might have just been inexperience,” Helms said, quoting McHan and noting that Daniel had not had a motorcycle license for long. McHan estimated that Daniel was traveling 45 mph in the 45 mph zone, Helms said, and no alcohol is suspected.
