WEDDINGTON — Five Weddington Middle School students were named as the top five winners in the Patriot’s Pen contest sponsored by Indian Trail Veterans of Foreign Wars. The contest was open to all Union County Public Schools middle school students. Eighth-grade student Makenzie Davidson, who was named the first-place winner, will be awarded $200 from the Indian Trail VFW and Ladies’ Auxiliary at the annual Veterans Day program on Wednesday at Post 2423.

Other winners were sixth-graders Joshua Trujillo (second place), Sanam Pillai (third), Jackson Hardy (fourth) and Emily Robinson (fifth). All five will be entered in the regional contest.
