Monroe girls pad lead in RRC standings

Handle second-place Cuthbertson on road

Monroe High's girls basketball team padded its lead in the Rocky River Conference with a 67-42 road win over Cuthbertson on Friday.
The Redhawks (15-1, 9-0 RRC), who have won eight straight, now lead the second-place Cavaliers (11-8, 7-2 RRC) by two games in the league standings.
Junior guard Asha Jordan posted 21 points, 12 rebounds and five steals to pace Monroe.
Monroe's Daya Jordan, a senior guard, added 16 points while sophomore forward Zasha Barrett chipped in with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Asha and Daya Jordan combined for 25 first-half points, helping the Redhawks to a 40-22 lead.
Cuthbertson, which had its five-game winning streak snapped, got 21 points and 12 rebounds from junior forward Morgan Carlson.
Taylor Helms, a sophomore guard, added 10 points, four rebounds and four assists for the Cavaliers.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday, when CHS hosts Central Academy and Monroe takes on North Stanly at home.
