Piedmont boys improve to 10-1

Hyatt scores 15 in win over Central Academy

Eli Hyatt’s versatility was on display during Piedmont’s 66-50 home win over Central Academy.
A 6-3 junior forward, Hyatt had game-highs of 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals to help the Panthers improve to 2-0 in the Rocky River Conference and 10-1 overall.
Piedmont jumped out to a 23-10 lead after the first quarter and led by 15 at the half (39-24).
Hyatt was one of five Panthers to score at least nine points. Senior forward Brady Meggs, the team’s leading scorer at 16.7 ppg, had 12 points, five rebounds and four assists and senior guard Jeremy Anthony contributed 10 points and nine rebounds.
Piedmont also got nine points and nine boards from sophomore center Cameron Tripp, as well as nine points and four assists from senior guard Qualen Blakeney.
Hyatt shares the team lead in blocks (12) and steals (20), and ranks second in assists (28).
Blakeney is averaging 10.7 points and a team-high 4.7 assists, and Tripp is at 10.8 points and tops the team in rebounding at 9.7 per game.
Anthony (10.4 ppg) also averages in double digits for the balanced Panthers.
Central Academy got 15 points and six rebounds from junior guard Ryan Grigston on Friday, and teammate Josh Daughety scored 11 on the strength of three 3-pointiers.
The Cougars have a big home game against conference champion Cuthbertson on Tuesday, while the Panthers travel to rival Forest Hills.
