Central Cabarrus claimed third place in the Grffin-Toxey Classic baseball tournament with a 7-0 win over Sun Valley on Wednesday afternoon at Piedmont High.
Vikings (7-6 record) senior pitcher Kyle Cliff held the Spartans (3-11) to three hits on his way to a complete-game shutout.
Jordan Watts took the loss for the Spartans. Four of the six runs Watts allowed were unearned.
Daniel Roman sliced a single into right field in the fourth inning for what proved to be the game-winning RBI.
Third baseman Nick Norton led the Spartans at the plate, finishing 2-for-3.
Sun Valley, which opens a three-game series against Anson County on Tuesday, went 1-2 in the tournament.
"It was a good tournament," said Spartans coach Rocky Richar. "The games were competitive and we had good weather for it."
