On a night when a player's health became more significant than the outcome, Sun Valley edged Cuthbertson 30-24 on Friday.
The Spartans remained in first place in the Southern Carolina Conference with a 4-0 record (7-3 overall), but the team was obviously devastated when sophomore starting QB Drew Swoope was seriously injured.
Swoope was hit hard and laid motionless for more than 20 minutes before being carted off the field and taken to the hospital.
Sun Valley coach Paul Hall later stated that Swoope had feeling in all of his extremities at the hospital but had back pain and was going to remain overnight in the hospital for observation.
