Mobley scores 4 TDs in Parkwood's 53-3 win
Parkwood High (3-3) showcased their big-play scoring ability during a 53-3 win over Cherryville High (1-5) on Friday.
Parkwood’s third win of the season eclipses their win total of the last three years combined (2-29).
The Rebels scored touchdowns of 85, 75, 70, 68, 60, 48 and 18 yards, as well as a 1-yard quarterback sneak from senior Grey Wyrick.
Wyrick threw for 202 yards on six-of-12 passing with zero interceptions.
Senior wide receiver Sam Mobley returned a kickoff 60 yards for a score with 4:44 remaining in the first quarter for the first points of the game.
Cherryville was held to zero first downs in the first quarter with the Rebels only recording one. The slow start may have appeared to be the start of a defensive battle, but the Rebel offense started rolling on the last play of the quarter with an 85-yard touchdown reception to junior wide receiver Max Robinson.
The touchdown was caught 15 yards from the line of scrimmage towards the left sideline and Robinson ran 70 yards for the score.
“I came in motion on zip,” Robinson said. “Normally teams like to key in on Sam (Mobley) a lot – a very, very lot. They keyed in on him so much it opened up and the cornerback went with him. I was open on the sideline and it just left the safety to try to catch me and I just used my God-given abilities.
“I didn’t worry about getting caught, I was worried about stepping out of bounds. I came very close to hitting that side marker but luckily I didn’t and I was able to put points on the board for our team.”
