Parkwood girls finish strong, improve to 12-4
Parkwood's girls held off a furious rally in a 65-55 home win over Marvin Ridge on Tuesday.
The Rebels held a comfortable 53-40 lead after three quarters, and held an 11-point advantage with 3 minutes left.
But Melissa Sepulveda when hit back-to-back 3-pointers for the Mavericks, the lead was down to 58-55 with 1:45 to play.
The Rebels regained their composure and scored the final seven points of the game for the Southern Carolina Conference victory.
Junior forward Emry Tsitouris scored 15 of her 26 points in the first half and also finished with 13 rebounds to lead Parkwood.
Sophomore guard Lillian Geehring contributed with 14 points, including nine before the break, and senior guard Maggie Smith finished with eight points and five rebounds.
Sepulveda scored 12 on the night — all on 3-pointers.
Alyssa Horan scored a team-high 19 and dished five assists for the Mavericks, and teammate Melissa Blatkin added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Parkwood improved to 3-2 in the Southern Carolina Conference and 12-4 overall.
The Rebels, who built a 10-point lead (31-21) in the second quarter, took a 37-31 lead into halftime.
Tsitouris scored 15 in the first half and Lillian Geerhing had 10.
Horan had 14 points for Marvin Ridge (1-4, 6-11) at the break and Blatnik had nine points and four boards.
Both teams are back in action tonight, when Parkwood hosts Forest Hills and Marvin Ridge travels to Porter Ridge.
