After a back and forth game through the first three quarters, Monroe High's girls basketball team pulled away in the fourth for a 60-47 win over archrival Forest Hills on Friday to claim the Rocky River Conference tournament title.
The Redhawks, winners of 18 straight, have now gone 17-0 against RRC teams this season and carry a Union County-best 24-1 record into the 1A playoffs.
After Jackets junior guard Shay Bivens tied Friday's title game at 44-all with a 3-pointer, the top-seeded Redhawks used a 10-0 run in the final frame to pull away.
MHS sophomore Bria Roddy hit a triple from the right corner to make it 52-44 and junior guard Asha Jordan completed the run with a bucket on the ensuing possession.
Jordan led all scorers with 28 points, including 19 in the second half. She also had 11 rebounds.
Jordan was named Player of the Year in the RRC following Friday's contest.
Senior guard Daya Jordan added 18 points and seven rebounds for the Redhawks, who also got 19 rebounds, 11 points and four steals from sophomore forward Zasha Barrett.
Forest Hills (18-8), the No. 3 seed, got 21 points, eight rebounds and four steals from junior guard Tonjai Everett.
Bivens added 17 points and five rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.
Both teams begin play in the state playoffs at home on Monday.
