Patriots battle back after blowing late lead

Freedom High's boys basketball team eliminated Weddington with a 63-60 win in the 3A state quarterfinal round on Saturday.
The Warriors put together a furious fourth-quarter rally.
Trailing by 10 midway through the fourth, WHS scored 11 straight points — capped by a pair of free throws by Jordan Sharpe on a one-and-one opportunity with with 1:27 left.
The Warriors got the ball back with the score tied and 29 seconds remaining, but turned the ball over.
After the turnover, Freedom's Gabe Logan drove the lane and turned back to find a wide open Khris Gardin, who knocked down a 3-pointer from NBA range with 2.1 seconds left.
Jordan Barber's half court prayer wasn't answered, ending one of the best seasons in Weddington's history.
WHS senior center Blake Waud went out with a bang.
Waud, who entered the game averaging 10 points, finished with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Fellow senior Brandon Watts added 13 points.
The Warriors finished with a 27-3 record and set a school record for wins in a season.
