Sun Valley sweeps Central Academy
Five players scored at least nine points to help Sun Valley High's girls get past Central Academy 63-49 on Wednesday night.
The 1A Cougars put up a valiant effort against the 4A Spartans, who were clinging to a 37-35 lead with 2:41 left in the third quarter.
But that's when Sun Valley turned it up, using a 15-2 run that pushed the lead back out to 50-35 with 5:50 left in the fourth.
CATA cut the lead to eight (52-44) with 1:44 left, but got no closer.
Amanda Bill led the Spartans with 15 points and six rebounds, and teammate Rachel Terrell scored 12. Sun Valley also got nine points, seven rebounds and six steals from Kela Thomas. SV's Lauren Isenberger and Hannah Gordon also scored nine points each.
Central Academy's Amber Isley had 12 points in the first quarter, helping Central build a 15-12 lead. She scored 21 points by halftime and finished with 25.
Rae Moore also had a big night for the Cougars (1-4), finishing with nine points, eight rebounds, six assists and six steals.
Sun Valley (4-4) plays at Rocky River on Friday while Central Academy host Weddington next Wednesday.
SV boys 48, CATS 26
Sophomore center Hakeem Polk had 10 points and six rebounds to lead Sun Valley High's boys to a 48-26 road win over Central Academy.
The Spartans are now 2-3 while Central Academy drops to 3-2.
Sun Valley led 10-4 after the first quarter, and used a 17-1 run to take a 21-5 lead with 4:02 left in the second quarter. The Spartans, who held Central without a basket for more than eight minutes, carried a 23-10 advantage into the break.
Junior Xavier Hamilton led the Cougars with 10 points.
