Parkwood’s boys survived Forest Hills’ blistering start, but couldn’t overcome the Yellow Jackets’ big third quarter on Tuesday.
Forest Hills remained unbeaten (4-0) while keeping the Rebels winless (0-5) with a 75-55 road victory.
The Yellow Jackets started the game with a 13-2 run before the Rebels clawed their way back with a 14-4 run of their own to pull with one early in the second quarter.
With the game tied, Forest Hills used a 7-0 run to take a 33-26 advantage into halftime.
“We always talk about starting fast at the beginning of each half,” said Forest Hills coach Matt Sides. “We did a great job at the beginning of the first half but we allowed them to climb back in it. The third quarter was the difference in the game.”
The Yellow Jackets outscored Parkwood 21-1 in the third quarter.
“We were more focused in the second half,” said Sides.
Forest Hills was led by Kalief Harrison and Roderick Poag. Harrison finished with 16 points and six rebounds, and was 6-for-7 at the free throw line.
“Coach always said just flick your wrist and put it over the rim,” said Harrison on what goes through his mind on the line. “It helped a lot (Tuesday).”
Poag, a 6-3, 215-pound power forward, had 14 points and six boards.
“I just want to come out and play hard and help my team win,” said Poag. “Me, being a senior and being a leader, I have guys that are looking up to me so I just have to play hard.”
Jordan Blakeney and Austin Perkins scored nine points each for the Jackets.
Parkwood had three players in double figures. Terrell Williams and Keenan Turpin scored 11 points each and Max Robinson added 10.
James Houston had seven points and a game-high 18 rebounds for Parkwood.
Parkwood is off until next Wednesday, when they play Central Academy at home.
Forest Hills is at Concord today, then hosts Pageland Central on Friday.
The Yellow Jackets are looking to go 5-0 for the first time sine 2008, when they started the season 12-0.
