Monroe handles R-S Central, 46-8
Tre 'Shun Wynn rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries to lead Monroe High's football team to an easy 48-8 home win over R-S Central in the first round of the 2AA state playoffs on Friday.
Wynn ran for two scores in the first half, including a 58-yard scamper with 7:23 left in the second to give the Redhawks a 18-0 lead.
Monroe, the No. 2 seed in the West bracket, improved to 10-2 on the year. The 15-seeded Hilltoppers end their season with a 5-6 record.
Redhawks junior tailback Chase Byrum added two TD runs in the first half, helping Monroe to a 32-0 lead at the break.
R-S Central finally got on the board with 5:47 left in the third when senior Nate Murray hauled in a 30-yard TD pass from senior quarterback Jay'len Hollis.
Hollis finished 8-of-19 for 151 yards with one TD and one interception. Rashaun Whitesides hauled in four catches for 82 yards for the Hilltoppers.
