Pirates rally for 35-34 win over Independence

Porter Ridge scores 8 points with no time left

Luke Bayly caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Isaiah Hicklin with no time on the clock and Nick Vagnone ran in the two-point conversion to give Porter Ridge High a 35-34 home win over Independence on Friday.
Hicklin drove the Pirates 80 yards with less than a minute on the clock for the game-winning touchdown.
The Patriots were called for three pass interference penalties on the final drive that covered 29 yards.
Vagnone scored 14 points on the night, including a rushing touchdown and his second pick-six in as many games.
Jerrick Robbins had an 88-yard kickoff return for a score.
Independence led 12-0 before Porter Ridge scored 20 unanswered points in the second quarter.
The Pirates, playing their first-ever game in the Southwestern 4A Conference, improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the league while dropping the Pats to 4-3 and 0-1.
