Piedmont improves to 5-1 with win over Colts
Halfway through the season, Piedmont High's football team has already reached last year's win total.
The Panthers, who went 5-7 last season, improved to 5-1 with a 34-26 homecoming win over West Stanly on Friday.
Senior tailback Matt Fisher scored three touchdowns, including two on receptions.
Fisher caught touchdown passes of 11 and 39 yards from junior QB Cameron Tripp, and also rushed for a 21-yard score.
Tripp was in on four touchdowns.
He opened the scoring with a 70-yard touchdown run on the fourth play of the game, and also threw for three scores — including a 27-yarder to junior Mitchell Woody.
Tripp finished with a game-high 136 rushing yards on 13 attempts and 9-of-16 passing for 149 yards.
