Redhawks still rolling, now 14-1

Monroe's girls beat Piedmont for eighth straight win

After leading by as many as 24 points in the second half, Monroe High's girls took home a 70-55 win over Piedmont on Tuesday.

Junior Asha Jordan scored 16 of her 21 points in the first half, helping the Redhawks build a 43-27 advantage. Jordan also had 11 rebounds and six blocks on the night.

Sophomore guard Bria Roddy scored all 10 of her points in the first half and also finished with 10 rebounds for Monroe,which has won eight straight to improve to 8-0 in the Rocky River Conference and 14-1 overall.

Senior Daya Jordan, Asha's sister, scored 20 points and also had seven rebounds and six assists.

Monroe went on a 9-1 run late in the first quarter to take a 19-10 lead, and carried a 19-13 advantage into the second quarter. The Panthers stormed back, though, with a 9-0 run that tied the score at 19 with 6:02 left in the second quarter.

The Redhawks put the game away by finishing the half with on a 24-8 run.

Piedmont also had three double-digit scorers on the night.

Abbey Mills led the Panthers with 16 points and five assists, Jessica Prince scored 15 and Jackie Price contributed 14 points and eight boards.

The loss drops Piedmont's record to 3-5 in the league and 7-10 overall.

The Panthers play a makeup game at home on Thursday against North Stanly.
