Robinson takes advantage of WHS' short-handed roster
J.M. Robinson (2-1) took advantage of Weddington High’s short-handed roster in a 51-28 road win over the Warriors in girls basketball on Friday.
Weddington (3-3) played without three starters due to illness, including their leading scorer — sophomore sensation Stephanie Watts, who scored a county-record 50 points in a win over Cuthbertson High last Friday and recorded a quadruple double against Cox Mill High on Tuesday.
The Warriors also played without juniors Bailee Carter and Lacy Lockhart on Friday. Watts (21.8 ppg), Carter (10.8 ppg) and Lockhart (7.4 ppg) are Weddington’s top three scorers.
Freshmen guards Jada Craig and Molly Mann scored eight poins each for the Warriors and sophomore Amarianne Mitchell added six, doing most of her scoring inside.
Weddington trailed 20-12 at halftime and kept the game somewhat close, but were unable to overcome their lack of depth — giving up 31 points in the second half.
The Warriors will host Hickory Ridge High on Tuesday.
