Newton-Conover ends Panthers' run

Piedmont High's run for a second straight state wrestling title came to end on Thursday.
Newton-Conover recorded a 36-24 victory over the Panthers on its home mat in the 2A state semifinals.
Newton-Conover clinched the match with a pin at 145 pounds.
Piedmont, which ends it season with a 32-6 record, was seeking to make a third consecutive trip to the state championship.
The Panthers fell to Croatan in the 2010 state title match before claiming the championship over Croatan last season.
