Two Spartans win state titles

Logan Farlowe completed a perfect season at 160 pounds and Billy Benfield captured gold at 138, giving Sun Valley High two individual state champions at the 3A tournament. The Spartans placed fifth in the state as a team.

WHS, Marvin Ridge open baseball seasons this week

Marvin Ridge has defeated Weddington six out of nine times the last two seasons, and the Mavericks have also hung two conference championship banners during that stretch. But the Warriors have one-upped their archrival both years, capping the 2012 and 2013 seasons with state championships.

Mavs' White retiring after 36 years

Gosnell White, who won a state championship as the boys basketball coach at West Charlotte in 1999, is retiring at the age of 58. White is in his seventh and final season at Marvin Ridge, where he's compiled 102 of his 535 career wins.
