Deaths for September 11, 2009
MARSHVILLE - Mr. Carl Jason Floyd, 91, of Marshville, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 10, 2009. He was born May 13, 1918 in Anson County, NC, the youngest of 9 children of the late L.C. (Richard) and Mary Kiker Floyd. Jason was a loving and faithful husband, endearing father and friend to many. He had a heart of gold and was admired by all who knew him. During his younger years, he worked for nearly 15 years at farming and saw mill work when it was done primarily with manual labor and mules. He was known to be an excellent sawyer. Later on he was employed by Eaton Corporation in Monroe for over 25 years. After retirement from Eaton, he returned to the farm and his beloved sawmill.
Survivors are his devoted wife of 67 years, Clemmie N. Floyd, son, Gary L Floyd and wife Cindy of Wake Forest, NC; daughter Glenda and husband Harry Fabry of Charlotte, grandsons, Jonathan and Jason Floyd; brother, Clyde Floyd. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Merritt and John Floyd, sisters, Cassie Floyd Preslar, Bessie Floyd Saunders, Rose Anna Floyd Preslar, Lizzie Kate Floyd and Frankie Floyd Jackson.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Jason will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 2PM from the Union Grove Baptist Church, where he was a faithful and dedicated member for more than 60 years. Officiating will be Rev. Chris Wallace and Rev. Raymond Owens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service in the church’s fellowship building.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Union Grove Baptist Church, 2506 Old Lawyers Rd., Marshville, NC 28103.

INDIAN TRAIL - Samuel Isaac Gamble, infant son of Jason and Paige Gamble, died Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Thomas E. Hall
CHARLOTTE - Thomas Edmund Hall, 95, on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, we lost one of the last true Gentlemen. Mr. Hall was born in New Haven, Connecticut, February 28, 1914 son of the late Harry and Martha Florence Shipman Hall. Mr. Hall was the curator for the Museum of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in New Haven, CT for thirty-two years and an avid historian. In 1989, he and his wife moved to Monroe, NC and in 1997 to Aldersgate, a United Methodist Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC. At Aldersgate, Tom nurtured new friendships and shared his knowledge with many who are thankful to have known him. Tom was preceded in death by his wife Odell Aldridge Hall and his sister, Harriett Kaufman of Wallingford, CT.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. Burial will follow in Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Monroe, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home, Saturday prior to the service.
Tom is survived by his son Warren Aldridge Hall and wife Carolyn of Gastonia, NC; sister-in-law, Ruby Winchester of Charlotte, NC; many nieces and nephews among them Jack Kirschner and wife Martha of North Haven, CT and Tom Aldridge and wife Anthea of Monroe, NC. Mr. Hall is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews.

Bryan Joseph Landers
INDIAN TRAIL - Mr. Landers, 22, of Indian Trail passed away August 29, 2009 in Hawaii. His family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Weddington Chapel of Heritage Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors will be immediately following at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
Bryan was born on June 1, 1987 in Charlotte, NC, son of Jami Harnen Landers and Billy Keith Landers. He was a graduate of Sun Valley High School where he was on the National Honor Society and was a four year member of the ROTC. He also worked with the Monroe Police Department as a Cadet for training. After High School he joined the Military and proudly served his country in Iraq for seventeen months. He was the type of person that never met a stranger, always had a smile on his face and was dedicated to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his beloved parents; Jami Landers and Billy Keith Landers, grandparents, Charles Harnen and his wife Maureen Harnen; Billy and Judy Landers, Sr.; Chris Ganley and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.

Rommie Montgomery
MONROE - Rommie Harold Montgomery, 70, died Thursday, September 10, 2009, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lee Park Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.
He was born April 14, 1939 in Union County, son of the late Manes and Edith Moser Montgomery.
Survivors include his wife Ronda Boswell Montgomery of the home; two daughters, Robin Montgomery Stegall of Garner and Lisa Montgomery Simpson of Monroe; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lee Park Baptist Church, 2505 Morgan Mill Road.

Marvin B. Stegall
MONROE - Marvin Blair Stegall, 75, of Monroe, died Tuesday (September 8, 2009) at Carolinas Medical Center-Charlotte.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
He was born May 30, 1934, in Union County, North Carolina, a son of the late Tommy Clayton Stegall and Alice Mae Purser Stegall.
Survivors include a daughter, Vanessa Stegall Gibson of Snellville, Ga.; two sisters, Shirley Adams of Indian Trail, and Dot Cooper of Monroe; and one brother Clayton Stegall of New Salem.
