Rebels, Panthers play to 1-all tie
TJ Doster scored the lone goal for the Panthers on a pass from Jonas Nader. Parkwood’s score came off the foot of Leo Rodriguez.
Dustin Crowder recorded nine saves in goal for Piedmont (2-4-1), which plays at Forest Hills on Wednesday starting at 6 p.m.
The Rebels (3-2-2) are at Providence on Thursday starting at 6 p.m.
Redhawks whip Cardinals
In Monroe, MHS improved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the Rocky River Conference with a 5-0 win over Union Academy.
Gildardo Garcia, Ranulso Narban, Daniel Cornejo, Jesus Corejo, and Fernando Estevez did the scoring for Monroe.
Daniel and Jesus Cornejo each had an assist while Estevez added two assists for the Redhawks.
Rafael Martinez recorded the shutout with five saves.
The Redhawks play again Wednesday at home against Central Academy starting at 6 p.m.
CATA tops FH
In Marshville, Johnny Andon scored twice to lead Central Academy to a 5-2 victory over Forest Hills.
John Wright, Luis Arreola and Brendan Duncan each added a goal for the Cougars (3-4-1, 3-2 RRC).
Sam Cho, Narciso Capote, Duncan, and Wright all had an assist for CATA, which plays at Monroe on Wednesday.
Cavs still unbeaten
In Waxhaw, Cuthbertson improved to 5-0 on the season with a 1-0 victory over West Stanly.
John Lewthwaite scored the lone goal for the Cavaliers off an assist from Matt Cureton.
Adam Lutz recorded the shutout with 13 saves.
The Cavs will play Union Academy on Wednesday starting at 6 p.m.
VOLLEYBALL
Panthers improve to 11-1
In Monroe, Piedmont picked up a 3-1 road victory over Union Academy on Monday.
Set scores were 19-25, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-17.
Taylor Simpson had 14 assists, seven kills, seven aces and three blocks to lead the Panthers, who improved to 11-1 overall and 6-1 in the Rocky River Conference.
Katie Simpson had five kills and three aces and Alison Florence recorded four kills and three blocks for Piedmont.
Courtney Barrineau posted five kills and an ace for the Panthers while teammate Nicole Hyatt had six digs and was 15-for-15 on serves.
The Panthers play again at West Stanly on Wednesday starting at 6 p.m.
The Cardinals (5-4) are at Central Academy on Wednesday starting at 6 p.m.
Jackets take care of CATA
In Monroe, Forest Hills recorded a 3-1 road win over Central Academy.
Scores were 25-16, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-19.
Amelia Stewart had 16 assists and an ace, Coree Coley had nine kills, Jennifer Jackson had ten kills and two aces, Natalie High had six kills and an ace and Nicole Helms posted eight aces and five assists.
The Yellow Jackets (4-4 RRC) are back in action at North Stanly on Wednesday starting at 6 p.m.
Colts keep MHS winless
In Oakboro, West Stanly cruised to a straight-set victory over Monroe, keeping the Redhawks winless at 0-9 on the season.
Scores were 25-15, 25-20 and 25-19.
Monroe is back in action at Berry Academy on Wednesday starting at 5 p.m.
GIRLS GOLF
Walker leads Mavs to win
In Monroe,the Marvin Ridge High girls golf team edged Porter Ridge, 136-148, in a Southern Carolina Conference match at Rolling Hills County Club on Monday.
Weddington finished third with a 163, followed by Parkwood (180) and Sun Valley (189).
Marvin Ridge’s Rachel Walker earned medalist honors by firing a 41. Her teammate, Amanda Hampton, tied Weddington’s Katlyn Demille for second with a 44. Porter Ridge’s Kelly Godbout shot a 46 to finish third.
The next SCC match is scheduled to be played at Monroe Country Club next Monday starting at 4 p.m.
