John Wesley Harrell Sr., 83, died Saturday, September 19, 2009, at Carolinas Medical Center-Union in Monroe.

Arrangements will be announced by Grier Funeral Service of Monroe.

Mrs. Ingraham, 79, of Monroe, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on September 18, 2009. She was born on October 19, 1929, in Quito, Ecuador.

Mrs. Ingraham was raised in Ecuador and moved to Paris to study at l’université Paris-Sorbonne. There she met and married Bishop Eli Ingraham on February 24, 1951. Working with and mentoring students at Monroe High School was a special joy to her. It was especially satisfying to see her students reach their true potential. Gardening, crosswrod and jigsaw puzzles were her favorite pastimes. She cherished her family. Her legacy are the values she instilled in her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband; daughter Yvonne Vizcaíno of Monroe, NC and husband Cecil, Sr.; daughter Sonia Vizcaíno of Monroe, NC; son Michael Ingraham and wife Susan of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren Cecil, Jr. and María Belén Vizcaíno, Jeffrey Vizcaíno, and Christopher, David and Patrick Ingraham; brother Mario Benalcázar and wife Eulalia. She was predeceased by her parents Miguel Angel Benalcázar and Maruja Miño, and sister María Eugenia.

A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held in the Chapel at Gordon Funeral Service located at 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112 on Sunday, September 20 at 6 p.m. The interment will follow at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.

Any remembrance can be contributed to the American Cancer Society.

Edith Ivone Plyler McManus, 89, died Friday (Sept. 18, 2009) at the Brian Center.

Services will be 4 p.m. today in the Waxhaw Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church Cemetery.

She was a native of Union County, a daughter of the late Harrison Plyler and the late Blonnie Hinson Plyler.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Edison McManus and a son, Jerry McManus.

Surviving is her son, Ronald McManus, of Waxhaw; daughters, Carolyn McCarn, of Belmont, Betty Hanna, of Charlotte, and Brenda Kiker, of Waxhaw; sisters Ruby Robinson, of Waxhaw, and Peggy Helms, of Monroe; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the Brian Center activity fund 204 E. Old Highway, Monroe, NC 28112.

Virginia Dare Greene Parker

POLKTON

Virginia Dare Greene Parker 87, died September 18, 2009 at Autumn Care of Marshville.

Graveside services will be Monday, September 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Monroe with Pastor Mike Riley and Pastor George Gouge officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born Nov. 19, 1921, she was a daughter of the late George Greene and the late Lilly Asbury Purser Greene.

She was a finisher at Cannon Mills in Concord. She was a longtime member of and florist for Antioch Baptist Churc h. She was a dedicated caretaker for her parents and family. She was a wonderful cook who loved gardening, flowers, yard work and her cats. Her son, Dennis , was her heart.

She was predeceased by her parents, and three brothers, Lawrence Greene, P.O. Greene, and Onice Greene.

Survivors include her husband, “JB” Parker, a son, Dennis Parker of Polkton; and nieces and nephews, Phyllis, Rita, Gwendlyn, Lynell and Bobby.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 20, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.
