Local Briefs for October 1
MONROE — Jury selection continued in a murder trial Wednesday.
Jamez Dorjan Hunter, 27 of 124 W. Union St., Marshville, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his grandmother. Rosia Lee Hunter was killed in her Marshville home on May 6, 2007.
Judge David Lee ruled on a few final pre-trial motions Tuesday morning and jury selection began Tuesday afternoon after Hunter rejected a plea deal. The district attorney’s office offered Hunter a maximum of 42 years in prison if he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. If convicted of first-degree murder, he could face life in prison; the district attorney is not seeking the death penalty.
Jury selection will continue Thursday morning.
