Craven Collins

MONROE

Craven Collins, 62, of Monroe, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009,.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at L.D. Grier Memorial Chapel in Monroe.

Born September 28, 1947, in Union County, he was a son of the late Bisphop A.D. Collins and the late Lois Hailey Collins.

Survivors include three daughters, Shantelle Collins of Monroe, Colitha Brown of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Lois Love of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, Ernest Collins of Monroe and a sister, Maxine Washington of Monroe; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

The family will be at home at 401 P.E. Bazemore Drive, Monroe, Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Grer Funderal Service Chapel.

William Ehrhart

MATTHEWS

William “Bill” Ehrhart, 67, of Matthews, died Saturday, October 3, 2009, at home. Arrangements remain incomplete and are being handled by Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel.

Lois Fowler

MONROE

Lois Mullis Fowler, 89, of Monroe passed away October 1, 2009, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Lois was born in Union County, N.C., her late parents were Thomas and Fannie Smith Mullis. She was the devoted and beloved wife of Needham Fowler. They were married and in love for 59 years.

A memorial service to celebrate Lois’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 4, 2009, at the Heritage Funeral & Cremation Services, Indian Trail Chapel. The family will meet well wishers from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Pastor Mike McGee from the True Light Church will be conducting the service.

Lois is survived by her loving and caring husband Needham Fowler of the home; one son, Ray Fowler and wife Lois; two grandchildren, Christine Fowler Hackett and husband Keith, Kenneth Fowler and wife Lynsey; and great-grandchildren Jacob and Elizabeth Fowler.

She also leaves two sisters, Kate Williams of Indian Trail and Doris Tomberlin of Monroe.

Melhart Francis Gombar

CHARLOTTE — Mr. Gombar, 78, of Charlotte, N.C., lost his life on September 30, 2009. He was born in St. Clair, Pa., on March 7, 1931.

Mel graduated from Reading High School in Reading, Pa., in 1948 and Penn State University in 1959. Prior to attending Penn State he served in the U.S. Army from October 1952 to October 1954 in the Korean Conflict.

He worked for IBM as an electrical engineer in Endicott, N.Y., for a number of years before transferring to Charlotte, N.C. He retired in 1987.

Mel is survived by his wife, Sylvia, of 53 years; two daughters, Catherine Abraham and her husband Benjamin, and Ann Marie Gombar; one son, John Gombar, all of Charlotte, N.C.; and three grandchildren; Chad Gombar, of Monroe, N.C., Jordan and Jonathon Abraham; and brothers; Joseph Gombar of Pottstown, Pa., Stephen Edward of Reading, Pa., and many loving nieces and nephews.

He will be remembered for his generosity, optimism, and loving heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Anna Cherba Gombar, and brothers, Elmer and Gene and a sister, Anna Karahuta.

A celebration of life service will be at St. John Neuman Catholic Church, 8451 Idlewild Rd., Charlotte, NC 28227, where he was a charter member. Services will be held Monday, October 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the family to receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. John Neuman Catholic Church or the Autism Society of NC, Mecklenburg County Chapter, 505 Oberlin Rd. Suite 230, Raleigh, NC 27605.

MARSHVIILLE

Mary Elizabeth Jones 84 died Friday October 2, 2009 in Hospice House of Union County.

Services will be held Monday Oct. 5th, at 2:00 PM in the Centerview Baptist Church, interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Union County born June 1, 1925, daughter of the late Crawford L. Austin and Ila Mae Helms Austin.

She is survived by her husband John C. Jones, daughter Marsha Ann Ray and husband Andy of Winston Salem; brothers; Varon Austin of Indian Trail and Thomas Dolan Austin of Columbia, S.C., also four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6- 8 p.m. at Gordon Funeral & Cremation Service.

Donald Wayne Simpson

MONROE - Donald Wayne Simpson age 66 of 1212 East Sunset St. formerly of Mt. Holly died Friday October 2, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte.

A native of Cabarrus County. Son of the late William Allie and Ruby Ritch Simpson. He was a member of Catawba Heights Baptist Church .

Survivors a brother Bobby Allie Simpson of Monroe, sister Brenda Johnson and husband Gene of Carolina Beach, 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

Mr Simpson was preceded in death by his parents , wife Tonya Denton Simpson and sister Betty Barber.

Funeral services will be 2:00 Pm Monday at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel in Stanley with Rev Max Pendelton officiating . Burial will be at Pineview Cemetery in Mt. Holly. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Monday prior to the service at the Funeral Home and other times at the home of Linda Haas at 1112 Peppertree Dr. Mt. Holly, NC.
