Senior birthdays October 11
Ethel H. Whiteside of Monroe celebrated her 90th birthday Oct. 2, 2009, with a dinner at Hilltop Restaurant. It was hosted by her children and family.
She was born Oct. 2, 1919, in Monroe. She is the former Ethel Helms, daughter of the late Frank and Velma Helms. She is a retired housewife. Her husband was the late Floyd Whiteside.
Their children are Carolyn Manus, Wayne Whiteside and Dixie Nash, all of Indian Trail.
She has seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Marvin Atlas Rowell
Marvin Atlas Rowell of Monroe celebrated his 90th birthday Sept. 7, 2009, with a dinner in the Hillcrest Baptist Church fellowship hall. It was hosted by his children and their spouses.
He was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Monroe. His parents were the late Atlas C. Rowell and Laura K. Rowell. He is retired from L.A. Simpson Machine Co. His wife was the late Bessie Hanock Rowell. Their children are Jane Chaney, Jeanette Braswell and Delores Fail of Monroe, Johnnie Burleson of Locust and Barbra Taylor and Larry Rowell of Indian Trail.
He has 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
