Helena Hulon Alexander

MONROE — Mrs. Alexander, age 91, of Monroe, formerly of Charlotte, went to be with the Lord Monday, October 12, 2009, at Hospice House of Monroe. She was born March 31, 1918 in Union Co., N.C., daughter of the late Leroy and Viola Gaddy James. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter L. Hulon, and her second husband, Jack K. Alexander. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist and had worked for Chadbourn Hosiery Co, in Charlotte. She was also foster mother to 56 foster children. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at McEwen Funeral Service Charlotte Chapel, 5716 Monroe Rd., Charlotte, N.C., conducted by Reverends Huffman and Owney. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Hulon Reitzel of Stanfield, N.C., and a sister, Lula Parks of Kannapolis, N.C., four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Virginia Chambers

WINGATE — Virginia Chambers, 53, died Saturday (Oct. 10, 2009) at Carolinas Medical Center-Union in Monroe.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Marshville, with burial in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Danny Chambers of Wingate; one son, Shawn Chambers of Marshville; one daughter, Karolin Marsh of Thomasville; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Ted Eason

INDIAN TRAIL — Ted Richard Eason, age 63, of Indian Trail, N.C., died October 11, 2009, at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Eason was born April 30, 1946, to the late Clyde and Beulah Cook Eason. He was a member and elder of Image Church. He graduated from Sun Valley High School, attended Wingate College and served in the U.S. Army. He recently retired from McCracken and Lopez Engineering.

He is survived by his wife, Pearlie Rhodes Eason of Indian Trail; daughter, Monica Eason Knight and husband Anthony of Pageland, S.C.; son, Joseph Timothy Eason of Indian Trail; grandchildren, Drake Anthony Knight, Derrick Alan McManus and Gerald Anthony Knight Jr.; brother, Clyde Kenneth Eason; and sister, Marlene Eason Matheson of Indian Trail.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 noon Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. Graveside service will be at 12:15 p.m. at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, N.C., conducted by Mr. Eason’s minister, Rev. Bill Knight of Image Church.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 17 at Image Church, 4017 Weddington Rd., Matthews, N.C. Visitation with the family will follow.

MONROE — Mrs. Mildred Mullis Haigler, 77, died Sunday, October 11, 2009, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Mildred was born May 7, 1932, in Union County, daughter of the late Marshall and Della Griffin Mullis.

Survivors include her husband, Hilton L. Haigler of the home; one son, Ronnie Haigler and wife Michelle of Monroe; two daughters, Debbie Hinson and husband Danny of Indian Trail, N.C., Joan Helms of Bessemer City, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Sandy Tarlton and husband Jamie, Dexter Hinson and wife Amanda, Lisa Ferguson and husband Matt, Donnie Adams and wife Cathy, Chris Adams and wife Tamara, Daniel Haigler and wife Jennifer, Brian Haigler and wife Starr, Christina Haigler of the home; nine great-grandchildren, Jesse Tarlton, Sky Tarlton, Dallas Ferguson, Hunter Poole, Gage Hinson, Christian Adams, Kimberly Adams, Blake Haigler, Kayla Haigler; one brother, Cecil Mullis of Charlotte; two sisters, Ruby Knight and Doris Baucom, both of Monroe, N.C.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church, with Elders Newell Helms, Larry Austin and Charles Broadway officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from seven until nine p.m. Tuesday at the McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service of Monroe.

Clara Honeycutt

ALBEMARLE — Clara Baucom Honeycutt, 87, of 33632 Lona Road, Albemarle, N.C., 28001, died 6:56 a.m., Monday, October 12, 2009, at Stanly Regional Medical Center, Albemarle, N.C.

Her funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Larry Austin and Elder Ron Curlee will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born Aug. 14, 1922, in Union County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late J. Gilbert and Ola Elizabeth Mills Baucom. She was a graduate of Unionville High School and was owner and operator of Clara’s Beauty Shop. She was a member of Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church and was an oil painting artist and loved gardening, especially flowers.

She was married to the late Clyde Hughes Honeycutt, who preceded her in death Dec. 9, 2007.

Survivors include sons Richard H. Honeycutt and wife Kathy of Wallace, N.C., Kim D. Honeycutt and wife Debra of Albemarle, N.C.; and daughter, Janice H. Burris and husband Lane of Locust, N.C.

Brothers John Q. Baucom, Winford Baucom and Conley Baucom, and sisters, Billie Jean Almond, Rosa Lee Smith, Pearl B. Falie and Effie Fincher preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends at the Stanly Funeral Home, Inc., on Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The body will remain at the funeral home until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the hour of the service. At other hours, the family will be at the home of a son, Kim Honeycutt, 33632 Lona Road, Albemarle, N.C.

MONROE — Ruth Chaney Williams, 77, died Monday (Oct. 12, 2009).

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Born April 22, 1932, in Union County, she was a daughter of the late Lemuel Lee and Nannie Price Chaney.

Survivors include her husband, Oren Lee Williams of Monroe; one son, Tony Williams of Monroe; three daughters, Janet Stegall, Wendy Hill, Anna Gordon, all of Monroe; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Gordon Fuenral Service.
