MONROE — Union County is well-represented in high school boys soccer in the latest state polls according to eurosportscoreboard.com, with four teams ranked in the top 15.

Marvin Ridge (10-2-1) is ranked fourth in the 3A poll and is undefeated in the Southern Carolina Conference with a 4-0 record. The Mavericks are led by Matt Risher, who has 13 goals and six assists on the season.

Garrett Condon has 10 goals and 13 assists while Zach Young has five goals and four assists, including one that was the game-winner against Weddington last Thursday.

The Warriors (6-4-3) are ranked 12th in the 3A poll and are 3-1 in the SCC, just a game behind Marvin Ridge.

First-year Cuthbertson High (11-2-0) is ranked 14th in the 2A poll. The Cavaliers are 10-0 in the Rocky River Conference and own a 2.5 game lead over Monroe (9-3-0, 7-2 RRC) and Piedmont (8-6-1, 8-3 RRC).

John Lewthwaite leads the Cavs with eight goals to go along with his five assists. Dannon Fields has three goals to his credit and is tied with Matt Cureton for the team lead in assists with eight. Josh Shomette is second on the team with five goals.

The Redhawks are ranked 13th in the 1A poll. Monroe is on track to grab the top seed out of the RRC for the 1A state playoffs. Jesus Cornejo leads the team in goals with eight followed by Fernando Estevez, who has five and leads the team in assists with 11.

Miles Miller is second in assists with five and has scored twice. Gildardo Garcia and Christian Perez each have three goals.

The Panthers are in good position for the No. 2 seed in 2A for the RRC with a two game lead over West Stanly (6-5 RRC).

Senior Jonas Nader has been on a tear this year, leading the County with 20 goals and 13 assists.

Central Academy (5-8-1 overall) has a 5-6 record in the RRC, but if they can turn up their level of play in the final stretch, the Cougars have a good opportunity to push Union Academy (5-4-1 RRC) for the No. 2 seed in 1A.

Brendan Duncan and Johnny Andon are tied for the team lead in goals with 12 apiece, and Duncan also leads the team in assists with seven followed by Andon with six.

Jon Wright has scored six times for the Cougars.

Forest Hills (3-9-0) has a 3-7 record in the conference. Alan Tinoco leads the team with seven goals and is followed by Walter Islas, who has four goals and three assists. Izzy Zapata leads the team in assists with five.
