Death Highway work is early Christmas gift
Yes, we who live along this road have been inconvenienced by the construction, but the end result will be well worth the troubles and should make this road much safer for all to travel upon.
Blythe Construction has done a great job, making the road building as painless as possible for travelers. Few delays have been the result of their efforts for all of us who use the road. We who have lobbied for years to get this road four-laned consider that the is indeed a great Christmas present.

It is not the highway its the people that drive on the highway. I live on 601. I have seen more people not paying attention why they are driving applying makeup, on the cell phones, pulling out in tracffic, looking for things in the floor and speeding. Since they have recently opened up 2 lanes it has been a speedway and very hard to get on the highway. The speed limit is 55 and the traffic has exceeded that speed limit in just a few days its like lowes motor speedway. I really hate to think that we are only going to have more deaths and more wrecks and even worse now there are 4 and some 5 lanes now. I think if there was more patrol on 601 in the past than instead of only seeing patrol when there were wrecks there would not have been as a huge of problem. Since they have started on the road there still have been numerous wrecks even one wreck Monday night. So what has changed? Nothing. I have called 911 numerous times to report incidents on 601 for years and not 1 highway patrol or sheriff has shown up unless it was a wreck.

"We who have lobbied for years" includes more than the people on 601 south and the commissioners. For 5 years the trip commission had this as their number 0ne priority as did Senator Shubert and Rep. Blackwood. I cannot remember how many times the trip commission sent people to Raleigh, at their own expence, for this project and the bypass.
