Wingate's Junior Nyemb is this week's SAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University senior forward Junior Nyemb (Douala, Cameroon) is this week’s South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon. Nyemb earns SAC Player of the Week honors for the fourth time in his illustrious career.
Nyemb (pronounced “yem”) scored two goals last week as Wingate topped Lenoir-Rhyne 2-1 Wednesday night and tied Mars Hill 2-2 Friday night. At Mars Hill, Nyemb tied the contest at 1-1 in the 18th minute. The Bulldogs would take a 2-1 lead later in the opening frame, but the host Lions tied the contest after intermission.
An ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® candidate, Nyemb had a pivotal goal in the road victory at Lenoir-Rhyne. Nyemb scored with only two minutes to play in regulation to send the Wingate-LRU contest to overtime. Sophomore forward Paulo Brunetto (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tallied the match-winner only 10 seconds into the second overtime frame.
Nyemb was named to the Daktronics men’s soccer All-Southeast Region second team in 2008. In addition, he is a two-time NSCAA All-Appalachian Region first team selection. Last year, Nyemb led the Bulldogs with 16 goals on the season. He was second on the league charts in goals scored.
A second team All-SAC selection in 2008, Nyemb was fourth in the league with 33 points. He was second in the league with six match-winners on the year. A top-flight student, Nyemb has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III men’s soccer second team two consecutive seasons.
