Rock Hill, S.C.----The South Atlantic Conference Football Players of the Week have been announced for the week ending November 7, 2009. Wingate University redshirt sophomore wide receiver/return specialist/place kicker Bobby Seidof (Sarasota, Fla.) was named the SAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Carson-Newman College running back Buck Wakefield was tabbed the SAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Lenoir-Rhyne University defensive back Marcus Shuford was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.

This year, Seidof has added several lines to his already-crowded football resume. On Saturday, Seidof helped the Bulldogs win the field position battle as Wingate picked up a convincing 56-35 SAC road victory at Mars Hill. In only his third collegiate kicking appearance, Seidof handled eight of Wingate’s nine kick-offs. He boomed the six kicks for an average of 62.6 yards, giving the visitors a plus-six-yard advantage in the most-important field position battle (Wingate 40 to Mars Hill 34).

On kick return coverage, Seidof posted three special team solo tackles. He also returned two kick-offs for 60 yards. Seidof returned the opening kick-off 24 yards to set the table for Wingate’s first touchdown. On the season, he has returned a team-high 18 kick-offs for 462 yards (25.7 yards per return). Seidof’s 16 kick-offs have traveled an average of 63.2 yards this year.

A senior from Drummonds, Tenn., Wakefield set the Carson-Newman single-game rushing record for the second-straight week as the Eagles topped Tusculum 70-35. He rushed for 333 yards on 31 carries. Wakefield scored five touchdowns Saturday.

A junior from Newton, N.C., Shuford led Lenoir-Rhyne with seven tackles and two pass break-ups to go along with a key fourth quarter interception in the Bears’ 16-13 win at Catawba Saturday. Shuford and the LRU defense also limited the Indians to minus three yards rushing in the contest. He completes the season as the Bears’ top tackler with 76.
