Jim Banta

WAXHAW

James Lloyd “Jim” Banta, 80, died Saturday, November 7, 2009. Mr. Banta was born in Macon County, Missouri, July 20, 1929, son of the late Lloyd Mckee and Pauline Doctor Banta. Jim took pride in serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was also an active supporter of the American Legion, and loved God, family, and country.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at 12:00 noon, in the Marvin United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Jim is survived by his wife Dana Zimmerman Banta; sons Skip Banta of Monroe, N.C., and David Banta of Winston-Salem, N.C.; daughters, Barbara Collins of Columbia, S.C., Bonni Staples of Waxhaw, N.C., and Danielle Simon of Charlotte, N.C.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Mary Bowman.

Memorials are requested to Marvin United Methodist Church, 9914 New Town Rd., Marvin, NC 28173.

Ryan Austin Courtney, infant, died Thursday (Nov. 5, 2009) at Carolinas Medical Center-Union.

Born Nov. 5, 2009, in Monroe, he was a son of Adam Courtney and LaWanda Kay Laney, both of Monroe.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one sister, Megan Laney of the home, one brother, Trevor Courtney of the home; maternal grandparents, Jimmy and Linda Laney of Monroe; paternal grandfather, Tommy Courtney of Pageland, S.C.; and maternal great-grandmother, Elizabeth Thomas of Indian Trail.

Michael Abram Craddock, 57, died Saturday (Nov. 7, 2009) at Carolinas Medical Center-Union.

Funeral will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Carolina Funeral and Cremation Center in Charlotte.

Survivors include his partner, Kathy Reeves; three children; one brother; and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary Carol Helms Granger, 60, died Saturday (Nov. 7, 2009) at home.

Born May 28, 1949, in Union County, she was a daughter of the late James Westley Helms and the late Sadie Mae Hobbs Helms.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Pierce of Glendive, Mont., Shannan Granger of Rock Hill, S.C.; one son, Tony Edwards of Marshville; one brother, Bill Hobbs of Monroe; two sisters, Shirley Tucker of Lancaster, S.C., Janet Shelton of Monroe; and five grandchildren.

Ethan George Isaman, 21, died Monday (Nov. 9, 2009).

Hallie Jenkins

MARSHVILLE

Hallie Stegall Jenkins, 83, died Sunday (Nov. 8, 2009).

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Philadelphia Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Born Feb. 9, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Veda Edwards Stegall and was married to the late John Henry Jenkins.

She was a homemaker and was retired from her husband’s construction company as bookkeeper and from Union Regional Medical Center as a nursing assistant.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Courtney of Marshville; one son, J. Mike Jenkins of Marshville; three sisters, Shirley Pope, Faye Simpson, Lou Howell, all of Marshville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Catholic Church.

Wake will be 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home of Weddington.

Bob Patterson

MONROE

Robert Henry “Bob” Patterson, 68, died Wednesday (Nov. 4, 2009) at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Asheville.

Memorial service will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the home of Tammy Loupin, 5611 Indian Trail-Fairview Road in Indian Trail. He will be cremated and his ashes spread on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Born Sept. 4, 1941, in Fairfield County, Conn., he was a son of the late Clarence Edward and Catherine Irish Huether Patterson. He was a retired Marine Corps sergeant and was retired from auto body work.

Survivors include one sister, Elaine Kearney of Port Richey, Fla.

Roy Rogers

MONROE

Roy James Rogers, 63, died Sunday (Nov. 8, 2009) at home.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at West Monroe Baptist Church, with burial in the Smyrna United Methodist Church cemetery.

Born Oct. 23, 1946, in Union County, he was a son of the late James Franklin and Annie Belle Richardson Rogers. He was a self-employed drywall contractor.

Survivors include his wife, Judy P. Rogers of the home; three daughters, Laura Rogers Chatfield of Rock Hill, S.C., Terri Rogers Edwards, Andrea Rogers Cash, both of Monroe; one sister, Jo Ann Rogers Price of Monroe; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will follow the funeral at West Monroe and will precede the burial.

Howard W. Rumph died Sunday (Nov. 8, 2009).

Ralph Williams

Ralph Payne Williams, 88, died Monday (Nov. 9, 2009) at Carolinas Medical Center-Union.

Funeral will be 8 p.m. Wednesday at Benton Heights Presbyterian Church, with burial in Lakeland Memorial Park.

Born Oct. 26, 1921, in Union County, he was a son of the late James Gore and Miranda Fowler Williams and was married to the late Thelma Malden Williams. He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard P. Williams.

Survivors include one son, Michael E. Williams of Monroe; two daughters, Brenda Sue Evans of Charlotte, Paula Jo Crook of Monroe; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at McEwen Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Benton Heights Presbyterian Church, 2701 Concord Highway, Monroe, NC 28110.
