Charles Bethea

MINT HILL — Charles Gerald Bethea, 67, died Thursday (Nov. 19, 2009) at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

Arrangements will be announced by Good Shepherd Funeral Home in Indian Trail.

John Colvin

MONROE — John Edward Colvin, 48, died Friday (Nov. 20, 2009) at home. Arrangements will be announced by Davis Funeral Service.

Blanch Hargett

INDIAN TRAIL — Blanch Rachael Hargett, 77, died Thursday (Nov. 19, 2009).

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Golden Acre Baptist Church in Stallings, with burial in Sunset Memory Gardens.

She was a retired caregiver.

Survivors include one daughter, Jackie Pope; one son, Rick Hargett; one sister, Juanita Wilson; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.

MONROE — James Edward Huntley died Tuesday (Nov. 17, 2009) at Chesterfield General Hospital in Cheraw, S.C.

Arrangements will be announced by Grier Funeral Service.

Shawn O’Malley

INDIAN TRAIL — Lance Corporal Shawn Michael “Shamus” O’Malley, 24, of Indian Trail, died Friday, November 13, 2009, at his barracks at Camp Lejeune.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church Indian Trail.

The beloved son of John and Brenda O’Malley, Shawn had a love for music and was an avid weightlifter. He was an anti-tank assaultman assigned to the 8th Marine Regiment of the 2nd Marine Division. His decorations included the Iraqi Campaign, National Defense Service and Global War on Terrorism Service Medals.

In addition to his parents, Shawn is survived by his sister, Meghan O’Malley Doubraski of Asheville, N.C.

Shawn never met a stranger, had a heart of pure gold and a smile that could light up the darkest room. He always found the humor in life and was forever teasing his dad.

Augustus Tarlton

FLORENCE, S.C. — A graveside service with military honors by Florence Veterans Honor Guard for Augustus Harell Tarlton, widower of Mary Ida Smith Tarlton, will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday November 23, 2009, at Florence National Cemetery conducted by Rev. Glenn Carter. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday November 22 at Cain Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 181 E. Evans Street BTC-009, Suite 200 Florence, SC 29506.

Mr. Tarlton, 87, died November 18, 2009, in a local hospital. He was born, July 16, 1922 in Union County, N.C., to the late D.S. and Sarah Griffin Tarlton.

Mr. Tarlton was a timber broker and a saw mill operator. He served in the USMC during World War II. He was an original member of Windy Hill Volunteer Fire Department and brought up in the Southern Baptist faith.

Surviving are: daughters, Wendy (Julio) Godoy of Florence, Donna (Capt. James D., USN Ret.) Eldridge of Virginia Beach, Va.; sons, Rick Tarlton of Florence and Ted (Carol) Tarlton of Gibsonville, N.C.; grandchildren, Mary Elissa, SSGT Sara Bevin and Lea Anne Eldridge, Belle Eldridge (William) Sommerindyke, Jessica Elaine and Stephanie Anne Rhodes; great-grandchildren, Douglas Connor Rhodes, Anna Elizabeth and Jackson James Sommerindyke.

Janet West

MONROE — Mrs. Janet Lee Parker West, age 54, passed away Thursday November 19, 2009, at Carolinas Medical Center-Main in Charlotte, N.C.

She was born March 18, 1955, in Union County, N.C., the daughter of the late Mr. Amos Lee Parker and the late Mrs. Shirley Yvonne Quick Parker.

Mrs. West is survived by her husband, Lloyd West of Pageland, S.C.; one daughter, Michelle West of Monroe, N.C.; one brother, Kenny Parker and wife Pam of Monroe, N.C.; three grandchildren, Kailey Newberry, Nathan Newberry and Dylan Newberry, all of Monroe, N.C.

The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Sunday November 22, 2009, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe.

Funeral services for Mrs. West will be 2:00 p.m. Monday November 23, 2009, in the McEwen Colonial Chapel, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.

McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service of Monroe is serving the family of Mrs. West.
