Redhawks pull away from PHS boys
The Redhawks improved to 5-0 on the season while the Rebels fell to 3-2.
Parkwood took a 21-19 lead into the second quarter, using a heavy dose of 3-pointers to counter Monroe’s size.
But the advantage didn’t last long for the Rebels as Monroe tied the game quickly and took the lead on a bucket by Jamison Crowder early in the second.
The Rebels were able to hang tough and went into halftime down only four points at 36-32.
In the third quarter, things changed as the Redhawks continued to go inside and out on Parkwood while grabbing second-chance points off misses. The lead gradually increased to 17 points by the end of the period after winning the quarter 22-9.
Parkwood never threatened in the fourth quarter.
Senior post Isaac Blakeney finished with a double-double by scoring 11 points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds for Monroe.
The Redhawks were paced offensively by junior guard Quadarius Duboise, who had 19 points on the strength of three 3-pointers.
Jamison Crowder finished with a double-double of his own for Monroe, totaling 10 points and 10 assists.
Marcus Leak finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Rebels while older brother Maurice Leak ended with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Justin Crowder hit three of the Rebels’ nine 3-pointers on the night.
