Jackets sweep Cuthbertson
The Cavaliers (2-7) had no answer for FH senior guard Dre Huntley. At just 5-foot-3, Huntley scored a game-high 20 points, dished out 10 assists, added five rebounds and two steals.
Cuthbertson led 10-6 early in the first quarter after Cody Esser and Chris Bristow both connected on 3-pointers, but the Yellow Jackets (5-1) quickly climbed back. After Huntley threaded a pass to senior forward Markell Lotharp (6-foot-6) for a reverse lay-up, FH led 12-10 at the end of the quarter.
Forest Hills took advantage of the momentum from climbing back in the first quarter and outscored the Cavs 24-13 in the second quarter – leading 36-23 at halftime.
The Cavaliers fought back after halftime and outscored FH 14-11 in the third quarter. The Cavs even narrowed the deficit to six points in the fourth quarter, but too much Huntley and extra rebounds gave Forest Hills a 13-point victory.
Forest Hills out-rebounded Cuthbertson 34-22. Markell Lotharp and Tyrone Roland each had eight rebounds for the Jackets.
Mike Cuthbertson led the Cavaliers with 16 points after sitting out the entire first quarter and missing most of the third. Cody Esser added nine points on three 3-point shots.
Even though Forest Hills was dominant, the Cavaliers had their chances at the free-throw line, but made just nine of 23 attempts. The Yellow Jackets got to the stripe 11 times, making six.
Thomas leads FH girls
Cuthbertson’s Sydney Sebastian made four 3-pointers in the first half and the Cavs led early, but the Yellow Jackets (3-3) were too strong and won easily, 51-23.
Sherita Thomas tied a game-high with 14 points and added three assists for a Forest Hills team that saw eight different players make field goals.
Sebastian scored 14 points as well and Brogan O’Brien added six points for CHS (0-9).
With four field goals and one assist, Sebastian was credited with attributing to five of Cuthbertson’s eight field goals.
The Cavaliers will host Porter Ridge this Thursday and Forest Hills will next play at the Carolinas Medical Center Union Holiday Classic on Dec. 26-31.
