Piedmont's boys rally past Cuthbertson
The win marked the second straight game the Panthers (5-6, 3-2 Rocky River Conference) came from behind to beat the Cavaliers (4-9, 3-4 RRC). Piedmont won the consolation tournament at the CMC-Union Holiday Classic last Wednesday by rallying from 15 points down to knock off CHS 65-58 in the finals.
Junior guard Cameron Leviner led the rally for the Panthers on Tuesday, helping his team outscore the Cavs 16-0 in the third quarter to put Piedmont up 36-29 heading into the fourth. Leviner, who finished with 21 points and six assists, had seven points and two assists in the decisive quarter.
Senior forward TJ Doster added eight points and nine rebounds for the Panthers while teammate Wesley Marsh had seven points and nine rebounds.
Cuthbertson jumped on Piedmont early, going up 12-0 through the first three minutes before the Panthers hit their first shot.
The lead increased to 18-3 before Piedmont went on a 7-0 run to end the first quarter. Leviner hit the first of his two 3-pointers at the buzzer.
After the third quarter, Cuthbertson never got closer than five the rest of the way. CHS cut the lead to 40-35, but the Panthers went on a 6-0 run to put the game away.
Leviner finished 9-for-9 at the free throw line, including four straight in the final minute.
