Beth Cox

WINGATE

Beth Cox, age 38, of Wingate, NC, passed away Sunday (Jan. 17, 2010) at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, after a courageous battle fighting cancer.

A Funeral Service to Celebrate her Life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 21, 2010) at Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Monroe, officiated by Reverend Sherian L. Carr. Interment will follow at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Peachland.

Beth was born on Sept. 18, 1971, in Stanly County, NC, a daughter of Vivian Sue McManus Cox and the late George Edward Cox.

She was employed as a Customer Service Representative with Yale Securities in Monroe.

Survivors include her companion, Veronica Bolder and her children, Chris Bolder and Brandon Bolder, all of Wingate; her mother, Vivian Sue Starnes and husband, Harvey Starnes, of Hemby Bridge; two brothers, Ted Cox and wife, Lynn Cox, of Monroe and Daron Cox and wife, Nancy Cox, of New Salem; two sisters, Vickie Cox of Florence, South Carolina and Crystal (Missy) Helms of Pennsylvania. Her pride and joy, a grandson, Je’rel Bolder of Wingate. There are a host of nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 PM Wednesday (Jan. 20, 2010) at Davis Funeral Home in Monroe, 1003 East Franklin Street. There will be a walk in from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. prior to the visitation.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their support, concern, and love for Beth during her battle.

Walter Edsel Edwards

PEACHLAND

Mr. Walter Edsel Edwards, 79, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010 as a result of an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 23, in New Home Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Ross and Dr. Robert Wensil officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home.

Edsel was born in Anson County on February 28, 1930, a son of the late E.C. “Buck” and Inez Gaddy Edwards. He was a retired farmer and car salesman.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Lib” Hartsell Edwards of the home; a daughter, Pam Mills of Peachland; two sons, Dane (Judy) Edwards and Mike (Beverly) Edwards both of Peachland; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Frances (Charles) Mauney of Peachland.

Mr. Warren Grant “Pops” Hildreth, age 78 passed away Monday Jan. 18, 2010 in the Jesse Helms Nursing Center in Monroe, NC.

He was born April 23, 1931 in Union County, NC, a son of the late Mr. John Hildreth and the late Mrs. Anna Sanders Hildreth. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife: Joann Wright Hildreth on Sept. 6, 2008 and two sisters: Jane Sides and Brenda Vaughn.

Mr. Hildreth is survived by two sons: Mike Hildreth and wife Millie of Marshville, NC and Ronnie Hildreth of Mooresville, NC; one daughter: Diane Hartsell and husband John of Midland, NC; five brothers: Andrew Hildreth, Ed Hildreth, J.T. Hildreth, Leonard Hildreth, and Basel Hildreth; three sisters: Francis Turner, Dot Carpenter, and Rachel Hancock; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two step grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Thursday Jan. 21, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe.

Funeral services for Mr. Hildreth will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday Jan. 21, 2010 in the McEwen Colonial Chapel conducted by the Rev. Eddie Price, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.

The family request that In lieu of flowers memorials be made to the American Lung Association, 3801 Lake Boone Trail, P.O. Box 27985, Raleigh, NC 27611.

Mr. Hildreth’s family would also like to send a special thanks to the staff of The Jesse Helms Center in Monroe for all the extra special care they provided for him during his stay.

Brenda Smith Hobbs died Monday (Jan. 18, 2010) in Lancaster, S.C.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Canaan Land Ministries in Lnacaster, S.C.

Born Nov. 25, 1950, in Union County, she was a daughter of Elizabeth Cox Smith Boatright and the late James T. Smith and was married to Darrell Hobbs of Monroe.

Survivors, in addition to her mother and husband, include four sons, Kenneth Hilderbrand, James Griffin, Jimmy Griffin and Harold Griffin and two daughters, Buffy Griffin and Tiffany Griffin all of Lancaster, S.C.; two brothers, Jimmy Smith of Marshville and Tracey Smith of Charlotte, one sister, Barbara Smith of Monroe; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service of Monroe.

Delphia Jeanette Kiker

MONROE

Delphia Jeanette Kiker died Tuesday (Jan. 19, 2010) in her home.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial.

Born March 28, 1926, in Monroe, she was a daughter of the late Sippy Roy Ran Kiker and Mary Elizabeth Pearl Kiker and was married to the late Milvin Kiker. She was a self-employed homemaker.

Survivors include five daughters, Cathy Peale of Waxhaw and Judy Stokes, Shirley Kuy Kendall, Doris Clontz and Robbin Helms all of Monroe; one sister, Ruby Drake of Midland; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hartsell Funeral Home..

Tommy Garfield Robinson

MARSHVILLE

Tommy Garfield Robinson died Sunday (Jan. 17, 2010) at Kershaw Health Medical Center.

Born July 18, 1948, in Iredell County, he was a son of the late Arthur and Gladys Gunther Robinson and was married to Janet Robinson of the home.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Tammy Robinson Walden and Teresa Robinson Nance both of Monroe and Sheena Deane Robinson of Lugoff, S.C.; five brothers, Jerry Robinson of Mississippi, Harry Robinson of Alabama, Gene Robinson of Myrtle Beach, Paul Robinson of Huntersville and Larry Robinson of Rome, Ga.; and six grandchildren.

The Morgan and Son Funeral Home is in charge.

Jay Sims

CHARLOTTE

Jay Sims died Sunday (Jan. 17, 2010) in her home.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Austin Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow in church cemetery.

Born April 6, 1961, in Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga., he was a son of the late Donald Lewis Sims. He was a Steel rigger.

Survivors include his mother, Elaine of Myrtle Beach and step father Vernon Thornsbury; two sons , J.D. Sims of Harrisburg and Daniel Sims of Midland; four brothers, Lewis Sims and Brian Sims of Myrtle Beach, Randy Sims of Peachland, and Robert Sims of Rock Hill; one step-brother, Gene Thornsbury of Canton, Ga.; and three step-sisters, Sherrie McCain of Monroe, Linda Scott of Lenoir, and Teresa Sellers of Rockingham.

J.P. Stegall

INDIAN TRAIL

J.P. Stegall, 76, of Indian Trail passed away on January 18, 2010 at Presbyterian Main.

J.P. was born January 19, 1933 in Indian Trail to the late Jodie and Gladys S. Stegall.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, January 21st at Indian Trail United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with Reverend Jimmy Chrisawn and Reverend Mike Whitson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery with military honors. The family will begin to receive friends at 1 p.m.

Mr. Stegall owned and operated Piedmont Truck Sales and Parts. He served his country in the Marines Corps.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Nancy G. Stegall; daughter, Kay Stegall; brothers, Julian and Billy Stegall; sisters, Ethel Brooks and Ruby Griffin; grandchildren, Cameron and Chase Harriman; and four great-grandchildren.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather will be missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Indian Trail UMC.
